Method

  1. Add a few drops of dish detergent to a bowl of warm water. Agitate until bubbles form on the surface.
  2. Dip a soft cloth into the bubbles only, not the water.
  3. Gentle wipe the rattan with the bubbles. The damp cloth gently removes the dirt without damaging the Rattan.
  4. A toothbrush or other soft brush can be used to clean into the rattan.

To restore dry, cracked, or split rattan, apply boiled linseed oil with a brush. When saturated wipe it clean with a soft cloth. Allow it to dry or harden before using the rattan again. For very dirty rattan, apply detergent and scrub with slightly more water than normal. Dry the rattan with a hair dryer or leave it in the sun.

It is recommended to move Rattan products out of the sun when possible. If the rattan get wet is is advised not to let it sit in water. It should be drained and dried as soon as possible.

Make sure you use BOILED linseed oil. Raw linseed oil will not dry or harden.  (You do not boil linseed oil yourself.)
